Nuts And Bolts And Stuff

Sometimes my imagination goes to the most interesting places. For example, I was passing a bridge on my way to work and got to wondering how it got made. I’ll bet most people don’t even wonder about that. On the other hand, they take things like that for granted and can’t even pause for a minute to marvel at our everyday lives.

Anyway, I imagine there are all sorts of places that sell things like bolts for construction companies to make those bridges. And things people like me don’t think about, like threaded rods. They probably sell to everybody from people who just need regular nuts and bolts to companies working major construction projects.  Good to know there’s somebody like that out there.

Sunday Links

Here’s some things that caught my eye today:
Five For Friday: Comic book moments that made you laugh just thinking about them. I found a lot that I liked, and wished I participated. However, I’ve been ground down from the job to only come up with “Ambush Bug leaves his sidekick Cheeks The Toy Wonder to defuse the bomb.”
Enough is enough! What do you do when someone on a news show tries to spin a story? You point out that they agreed to come on the show and what would be discussed, and when that doesn’t work you quit talking to them. More facts and less agenda on the news shows. And that goes for both sides. And I don’t want to hear about the “liberal media”. The networks are owned by Viacom, Comcast, Disney and News Corporation. CNN is owned by Warner Bros. MSNBC, well look at the initials, Microsoft and Comcast. The only liberal media I can think of are the free weekly newspapers in the big cities and Current. They have an audience of what, 12 people?

New Dryer

I called Sears yesterday morning and was able to not only switch to the dryer we wanted, but was able to conduct the transaction over the phone. I didn’t have to go up there after work.
Even better, the time frame given for delivery was 1:30-3:30, which worked out with our schedules. But Kathy did express a concern about the possibility of being alone in the house when the dryer was delivered today. So I arranged for my nephew to come over before I had to go back to work after lunch. But they were actually able to deliver it early. So early that my nephew and I left at the same time. We hadn’t even had a chance to catch up. We’re hoping to get together next week and go see The Avengers again.

State Of Tony 5/7

I took Kathy to see The Avengers last night and we both loved it. Before that, we went to Sears to select a replacement dryer. That went smoother than expected. Then we went to the laundromat to get our laundry done. Some people were concerned that we were doing that, but it was really no problem for us. Kathy was an old hand at it, and I’ve been a few times in the past. There were a couple of snags, like adjusting to running 5 loads simultaneously and forgetting the dryer sheets. They were selling them there 2 for 75 cents. I had to go to Wal Mart for a couple of things and was considering buying them there, but went ahead and paid $2.25 for the peace of mind. While the clothes were washing, I went to Wally World and got what I wanted, which included 3 $1 DVDs, which Itook to Best Buy to use in their Upgrade & Save promotion. Got $5 off of the blu rays I bought. They had The Descendants on sale for $11.99 and with the $5 off knocked the price down to $6.99. But as they say in the commercials, but wait, there’s more. There was a $5 off coupon for the movie at coupons.com, knocking the total price down to $1.99. Plus tax and the dollar for the DVD I traded. Not bad for a blind buy. Now I just need time to watch it.
After we got home last night, I wanted to pull up the dryer we got on Sears website to get some information. I found out that the price listed was $60 cheaper than what we paid, and there was another one that was more suitable to our needs for about $24 more than what I paid. I’m going to see if I can exchange for the one we want. I don’t know if they match their website prices (I know some stores do, some don’t) but I’ll be disappointed if I can’t.

Avengers Quick Review

I got home after the show around 3:15am and went to bed. I have to go to work soon. And I have to deal with a couple of things here, not to mention worrying about the dryer being out. So this’ll have to be quick.
You’ve already decided whether or not to see The Avengers and how (3D, IMAX, etc.) If you’re going, the major question is whether or not it’s any good. It is. Kathy wants to go see it Sunday, and I can’t wait to take her. Worth going in whatever format (and consider upgrading to 3D and/or IMAX, it’s worth it).
There a couple of things in the end credits, one halfway through and one at the end.
I think that’s it.

Struggling With Great Responsibilities

Before I take off for The Avengers, I wanted to point out a post that my friend Robert Chazz Chute wrote about Spider-Man.
I need something to take my mind off of things. On top of dealing with the grind, I found out that my dryer quit working. So now I have to deal with the whole buying one and scheduling delivery thing. Oh yeah, and having clean clothes in the meantime.

New Mark Waid Comic

Hey everyone, there’s a new Mark Waid comic out. And the cool thing is, you can read it for free online. It’s called Insufferable and continues the stories of Incorruptable and Irredeemable. The premis of Insufferable looks like “what if Robin grew up to be a reality celebrity?” What I liked about it is that it did a couple of things to embrace the medium its presented in, rather than just scan some pictures and put them up online. They’re starting to use the computer screen to their advantage in telling the story as opposed to trying to fit the standard comic page on it. Well worth checking out.

Internet’s Back Again

Once again, it is human nature to be very vocal when something is wrong, but silent when things are well. Case in point, my internet is now working reliably. The technician that came out yesterday was very helpful, and saw signs of damage on the cable. he replaced the cable and it has been working fine since. Now to get the other aspects of my life straightened out.
